If you ever find yourself in such a situation, don’t fret, there is a chance to get your money back.
Well here are a few ways you can do this;
Solution 1
Send the MPESA transaction using the SMS code 456
If you send money to the wrong number, send the confirmation message to 456. This is a free text.
Safaricom should reply in less than 5 minutes with a confirmation message.
Mostly this doesn’t take more than 2 hours to resolve, unless it’s really late at night, in which case you will have to wait till morning to get your money reversed
Solution 2
Using the MPESA Hakikisha
Safaricom now gives customers 25-seconds to confirm the money’s recipient after sending the money.
If the prompt shows a different name from the one intended, you should reply by sending any number or letter, and you will reverse the payment made to the wrong person.
Solution 3
Visit an M-Pesa agent
Carry your National ID card that you registered your number with when visiting the MPESA agent who will in turn call Safaricom requesting a reversal of your monies.
Solution 4
Call Safaricom Customer Care
Dial 100 for prepaid customers and for 200 for postpaid customers and follow the instructions prompt on the other end and wait for a Customer care agent to assist you.
